Broken

Drive me to the desert,
To the cracked and barren land
Completely void of life
Save that which floweth from Your hand.

Fling me ever skyward
Where winds unfettered blow
And icy fingers strip away
What confidence I show.

Toss me to the ocean.
Let me drown amidst the deep,
Imprisoned in the murky cave
Where death and heartache sleep.

Awake me to the awful truth:
My hands in chains are bound!
Death’s pallor creeps upon my skin –
Oh, where can life be found?

Only when I’m broken
With no hope but Thy grace,
Can this captive heart know freedom,
These lost eyes seek Your face.
